About Rescue Tails Animal WelfareWe are a home based foster volunteer rescue since 2012 focusing on high risk animals in the Chicago metro area shelters. Our mission is to reduce the euthanasia through education and through responsibly rehoming animals via adoption. We Value All Lives. We are drawn to those most often overlooked which includes seniors, medical needs and special needs and hospice animals. We are mainly a dog rescue but work with cats from time to time as well. Over the years we have worked with many dogs that have been paralyzed. We are proud to say that we have helped many of them walk again through conservative methods. For those that we cannot get walking, we have adopted them with carts. We highly recommend to all pet parents faced with a paralyzed dog to seek the bounty of information on IVDD at http://www.dodgerslist.com/. We use these methods of conservative care as described by Dodgers List. IVDD Resources & SupportThis is Jenny's story and why we say, never say never!!! Paralysis is not a death sentence unless a human chooses that for their pet.
We share Simba's story. He was given up to Animal Control because he went rear paralyzed. We followed conservative care protocol as outlined by https://dodgerslist.com/ That includes 6-8 weeks STRICT cage rest, steroids and gaba pentin. Every one heals at a different pace and different degrees. Healing is totally possible! No MRI's! No Surgery! Angelo is another success story and example of what is possible if we simply give and IVDD dog that time and space to heal. He came into Animal Control rear paralyzed. He also had developed a large gash on his leg that needed care. He was walking before his gash healed.
